Student Profile - Theresa Mwesigwa Despite her personal and challenging background, Theresa seems to come out on top of every challenge. This can be traced back to her time when she was still at primary school where most of her interpersonal and leadership skills started to emerge. She was vested with leadership responsibilities and ended up being nominated as the Deputy Head Girl in 2005 at Lyttelton Primary School. That was just the beginning of bigger and better things to come in this young girl’s life. Upon arrival at Redhill in 2006, her leadership and charismatic traits were immediately noticed by both her peers and teachers. Her outstanding academic performance was unmatched, she achieved above her class average and term average. In 2008, she was one of two students selected to attend the prestigious Hotchkiss Summer Portals at Hotchkiss School in the USA. This was again a milestone achievement in her life because she learnt a lot during the trip to the USA. Hotchkiss selects the top academic students to attend their environmental science programme, from across the globe. Due to her commitments at Redhill she was not able to accept the invitation by Hotchkiss to return in 2009. In 2009, history was made at Redhill were she was unanimously nominated as Head Girl, the first black Head Girl in the school’s history. This was a ground breaking event at Redhill and in Theresa’s life as well as her family’s life. Everyone was overwhelmed with her achievements. She says, In addition to her current position, she was also nominated SSP class representative in her grade with the primary responsibility of facilitating all correspondence relating to SSP scholars. This in itself is a challenge to Theresa which she gracefully and willingly takes on as with everything else she sets her mind to. SSP wishes her the best in years to come.
